Psalm 115:1-8
“Idols”
Most of us think of idols as little “tikis” or statues.
-1 Kings 19:19- God’s glory (Elisha speaking).
Back story to relate to the teaching
It is so easy for monkey catchers to catch the monkeys
because these monkey are so stupid that when they stick
their hand in the jar (trap) to grab the peanut they make
a fist around the peanut and then aren’t able to pull their
hand out of the jar. Then all the monkey catchers have to
do is come and take the monkeys away. If they’d just learn
to let go of what they’re holding on to they could save them-
selves a lot of misery.
The nations in verse 3 (of Psalms) are like that monkey. Popular idols nowadays: Movies (Harry Potter, Twilight, Pirates of the Caribbean), Celebrities (Brad Pitt, Michael Jackson, Johnny Deep), Social Networking (Facebook, Twitter, Blogger), and Friends (fitting in with them, putting them before other needs).
Vs. 5 – 7 describe the fakeness of idols. All idols have a beginning but God does not. He has no beginning and no end. All these idols have no senses. They are blind, mute, deaf, lame, and have no sense of touch or smell. Basically they are dead; in verse 8 it says if you want to be like them then you are dead. They have none but Christ has all.
-1 Peter 2:24- What Christ did for us.
What have those idols done?
What have those idols done?
-Revelation 19:11-13-
