Gospel vs. World View
1. The Power of God vs. 17 & 18
The gospel vs. 16> death, burial, resurrection. People want to make their own way to God. They don’t want to admit that they are sinners. The most important thing is the cross. You need to know the gospel well to not be fooled> Paul didn’t come with words of elegant wisdom, he kept it simple. People don’t focus on the gospel they focus on themselves> what can God do for me? The gospel is the main thing.
2. The Power Of The Spirit
The Holy Spirit is there when witnessing to convict others or to plant a seed. The only way the gospel is powerful is when accompanied by the Holy Spirit. Vs. 21 (The wisdom wording means) no matter what you do, you cannot understand God on your own. You need to humble yourself & ask Him. He has said you cannot know me unless I reveal myself to you through the Holy Spirit. Vs. 19 – other believers will be destroyed. Vs. 3-5 Paul hammers this down because even in his day there were already people trying to distort the gospel or make other beliefs.
Vs. 5 Our faith should rest in the wisdom of God.
Pantheism – everything is god.
God uses thing who/that are weak to show His power. No one can boast in it except for Him. Being a Christian means you are going to offend other people that believe other things. > Acts 4:12, John 14:6, John 3:36
3. Foolishness & Weakness of God
To the Jews Jesus was foolish and weak because they were looking for a king who would solve their problems & make everything good again. Isaiah 52 & 53 talks about how Jesus wasn’t as the media portrays Him> basically saying he wasn’t getting people’s attention by His looks> it was what was inside of Him.
The Bible is the only book that can change people’s lives, the only book that has power. Other books can change your life but the bible is the only book that can help save people.
Analyze everything. How is the devil using it?
