1 John 1:2-4
John’s Study
All New Testament writings were written before 70 A.D. John didn’t just take Jesus on faith, he had a relationship with him, he studied him. John is demonstrating that he has the authority to preach the gospel. John is directing his letter to people who are claiming to be Christians but live in darkness, that love the world. As Christians we are called to show others our redeemed life so that others will believe the redeemer. John writes about how Jesus did become flesh, because if he did not then He could not have been the sacrifice to satisfy the wrath of God. And if He did/could not do that, then we are not saved.
What does Romans 9:28-30 mean to Christians? We need to be living it not just professing it. He is not presenting anything new, He is just trying to drive it home. John had a relationship with what was made known (Jesus).
1 John 2:15 – if you proclaim that Jesus is in you then you do not love things of this world. We are to have nothing to do with the sinner/ non-christians, yet some Christians look like them. Religion is viewed as just another step in life. Like high school or choosing a college. As Christians we know this is not just another step in life, we do not approach it that way.
Matthew 11:27 – it was make known. We are called to defend what we believe, to give an account, not to try and convince others. That’s the Holy Spirits job.
Our responsibility as Christians is:
1) Fellowship with God. This is first and foremost.
2) Fellowship with other Christians. Love the Lord your God, love your neighbor as yourself. John is writing this letter so that we can have more joy. The result is the completing of joy. His will needs to be our will. No matter what. I will still have the joy that comes from Jesus Christ Vs.4 We can have fellowship with him! What a great thing it is to be a slave to God
