Mark 8:34-35

“Taking Up the Cross”

Jesus is always telling people to follow him, yet we always seem to have an excuse. (If you were to highlight every time He says “Follow Me” it would be a whole lot.) It’s easy to wear the Christian label rather than to carry the cross. When Jesus told the disciples they they’d have to carry the cross it probably freaked them out because Jesus had not yet gone to the cross. To us it would seem like Jesus saying, you have to renounce yourself and dies in the electric chair, it would make about that much sense.

Our hindrance is freaking out over what other people think of us. Are we willing to walk through the humiliation just like Christ did?
